Shilla Hotel Peter Remedios Interview : English Version
[Intro]
The Shilla’s Authentic Value
[Subtitles]
The name Shilla connotes absolute dedication to perfection. Nothing short of perfection, in fact.
If it isn’t the best, it isn’t good enough, so that has left an impression on me. Creating something that’s truly iconic.
I think today I see Shilla becoming so much more sophisticated. It’s come of age. What I would say timeless modern.
It allows me to be able to do something, to capture the sense of what is luxurious, but with a whole different slant.

The Shilla’s Design
[Subtitles]
What would set Shilla apart is a great attention to detail. A home away from home, but in a way that is way beyond being homely. It’s a very sophisticated, very urbane experience. That’s what we’re looking to create over here.

The Shilla’s Rooms, Lounge and Restaurant
[Subtitles]
In designing the rooms, what was very important was that these rooms have to fit in with the lifestyles that we lead today. On the one hand, it's luxurious. On the other hand, it has to be totally functional. How do we enhance these rooms and make them that much better?
In the EFL lounge, it wasn’t about a lounge or a sea of tables and chairs and sofas and so on, but there were a series of living rooms... so I think hotels are about a homecoming. How do you capture that sense of homecoming?
For restaurants, it’s important that it doesn’t feel like the Shilla DNA necessarily. That the restaurant was in itself a destination. That you have arrived at somewhere special.
I want this to be the benchmark, maybe not just for Seoul, but perhaps for Asia at least or maybe beyond.
