Changdeokgung is the palace in which kings of Chosun Dynasty stayed longest among all the palaces of Chosun, and it is best preserved in its original form among the existing Chosun palaces.
Its excellent arrangement is in harmony with nature, and it is designated as a World’s Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In the early 15th century, the King Taejong ordered the construction of a new palace. Construction was set up to create the complex, consisting of a number of official and residential buildings set in a garden. The new palace is what we now know as ‘Changdeokgung’ and the garden, ‘Biwon’.
Biwon , a sacred garden of the Royal family was open to the public only since 2004. To preserve its originality, one can only visit Biwon with a designated tour.
